Maya Bozorgzad
Maya Bozorgzad is a lawyer, specializing in civil litigation. She believes that her ability to advocate for those who don’t have a voice is her greatest strength.
Maya first moved to Kitchener-Wilmot when she was 10 years old. As immigrants, her family struggled to find a sense of belonging for many years – until they made Kitchener their home. Despite having job opportunities elsewhere, as a young adult Maya chose to move back to Kitchener because it's where she has always been happiest.
While in law school at Western, Maya volunteered at and then worked for Community Legal Services, an organization that provides free legal services to low-income people in the community. As a volunteer, Maya provided free legal services in the areas of civil litigation (small claims court), estate planning, immigration, and criminal law. She also co-led a program called the Small Claims Court Project, which connected eligible community members with a volunteer lawyer and law student to assist with drafting documents for Small Claims Court. Maya also dedicated her time to the John Howard Society in London, both as part of their bail program as well as their program geared towards at-risk teenage boys.
Maya is co-founder of a small business, a ghost kitchen concept in Cambridge. She and her business partner started the company in 2020, in response to the pandemic. It was an effort to remove barriers for entry for small food entrepreneurs looking to enter the restaurant industry.
As a lawyer, Maya volunteered for Pro Bono Ontario as a Hotline Volunteer. This program connects Ontarians with a lawyer for free advice. She provided legal advice through this program to people with questions in the areas of consumer protection and civil litigation.
Recently engaged, Maya currently lives with her partner in Wilmot. Most of her close family lives in the region of Kitchener—Conestoga as well. In her downtime, Maya has always had a passion for art and exploring her creative side.
Maya loves Kitchener—Conestoga for its people, which are the heart of a strong, resilient community. This community continues to uphold values of kindness, integrity, and hard work, with a genuine commitment to growth and improvement. She would be honoured to continue her career of advocacy by representing the voices of her community in Ottawa.
